The company relocated this week from about 14,000 square feet at 1201 New York Ave. NW to slightly larger space at 1101 K St. NW. Though the new space, at 14,558 square feet, is only 3% larger its former headquarters, Juan Pablo Carriedo, the CEO of Monex USA, says it is better for hosting clients and can accommodate the company’s near-term growth ambitions. The 18-year-old building underwent a major renovation in 2022.
“We also wanted to attract talent — and the new office, the new space is one of the ways we do that,” he added.
Monex USA offers foreign currency exchange and payment solutions for companies, nongovernmental organizations and individuals. Formerly TempusFX, it has other offices in New York, Chicago, Miami, Houston and Los Angeles.
The company acts as both a facilitator of foreign currency exchange and advises clients on the best time to buy currency in order to minimize risk and cut down on costs. It also helps them with tasks as varied as completing payroll for staff in overseas offices and facilitating payment for imported products, Carriedo said.
Today Monex USA has more than 100 employees split across its U.S. offices. More than half of those are based in D.C. and Carriedo said there’s space for another 30 in its headquarters before it would need to grow again. “There’s room and a plan for growth in this space,” he said.
Currently, he’s hiring for half a dozen positions in human resources, IT, marketing and operations based in D.C.
Monex USA is a subsidiary of $11.1 billion-asset Mexican financial services firm Monex Grupo Financiero which acquired it in 2011, according to the company’s website. More than 2,800 people work for the parent company globally in offices in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.
